Maggie was born to John Byrne and Mary (nee Wall) in Oxley, Victoria. Maggie was one of 8 siblings and 1 of 4 girls. The four Byrne sisters, Maggie, Johanna Jane, Catherine (Cattie) and Mary Ann arrived in Palmerston on 21 February 1890, together with their future sister-in-law, Elizabeth Spry. Maggie is often mentioned in the local newspaper, the Northern Territory Times and Gazette, for her singing and other musical contributions to the local cultural events. In 1895, when Maggie said she was 25, she was one of the 82 women who registered to vote. Maggie registered at the Palmerston polling place. Her occupation was listed as "spinster". Maggie and her sisters sheltered with an infant in their home during the night of the 1897 cyclone. Their home was demolished and they were left sheltering under a table. Maggie was taken off the roll again in the 1897 review, having left the district. Maggie and her sister Johanna were living in Sydney in 1927 when they organised the funeral of their sister, Mary Ann Mayhew. The two unmarried sisters are registered on the Census from 1931 until 1940 at Tipperary Station where they undertook domestic duties for their brother and family. Maggie is on the Electoral Roll for Batchelor from 1934 until 1943. By November 1941 when their brother William Joseph passed away, Maggie was living in Perth. Maggie died in Perth in 1943.,
