Description: | Crowd gathered around plane. Fokker F.Viib/3m VH-USU 'Southern Cross' operated by Australian National Airways arrived at Darwin 11 May 1931 from Koepang (NEI) carrying the second Eng-Aus experimental airmail (Kingsford Smith, Allan, Hewitt) and transferred mail to DH50J VH-ULG 'Hippomenes' built and operated by Qantas (Tapp). 'Hippomenes' departed Darwin on 12 May and after an overnight stop at Cloncurry, arrived Brisbane at 4.20pm on 13 May. |
