The Northern Territory is recognised nationally and internationally for its beauty, diversity and unique culture. Even for those who only stay a short while, it remains forever an indelible memory of wonderful times, and leaves all those who visit with a sense of belonging. As recently as 1978 the Northern Territory was granted self-government, an essential element to its youthful spirit, and is reflected in its unreserved, easygoing friendly lifestyle, and enthusiasm for cultural diversity.
The Northern Territory Library's, 'Territory Stories' repository, also houses the 'PublicationNT' collection, which holds contemporary and historic publications documenting the business and political development of the Northern Territory.
Many historic Outback images, including these selected, are contained in the 'PictureNT' collection which is housed in the 'Territory Stories' repository.
