Description: "Simpson's Gap. A few miles out of Alice Springs this is one of the few gaps in the ranges "McDonald" which circle the town. They are rocky ban(?) slopes, unique in their colourings of deep purple. These ranges appear to have a shroud of purple haze. Surrounding country is flat and bare ghost gums grow along dried up creeks. A few stunted trees are in foreground. Creek bed [to the right.] Scene of a picnic resulting in much sunburn."
