Description: Westland Widgeon III G-AUKA 'Kookaburra' flown by Keith Anderson and Bob Hitcock forced landed 128km SE of Wave Hill Station about 18S 132E on 10 April 1929 while searching for Kingsford Smith and the 'Southern Cross'. Both perished. Originally located from the air by Lester Brain in DH50A VH-UHE 'Atalanta' of Qantas 21 April. First ground party of Flt. Lt. Eaton buried both flyers. Photo shows 'Thornycroft Expedition' at the site with Thornycroft, left, and coffin. The bodies were exhumed. Years later multiple searches were undertaken by John Haslett and Dick Smith.
