Biographical notes: Helen was born in Ndola, Zambia (formerly Northern Rhodesia), raised and educated in Australia. Helen joined the Department of the Legislative Assembly in September 1985 to the position of Serjeant-at-Arms, the first female Serjeant-at-Arms for the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly. In this position she was responsible for security of the parliamentary precinct and services to Members, including human resources, finance, travel, and parliamentary committee work. The Serjeant-at-Arms is the ceremonial officer of the Parliament and serves the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly in that capacity. Helen represents the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly at conferences of the Commonwealth Serjeants-at Arms Association. Since 2002, she has been the Editor of Debates, Hansard and represents the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly at the Australian and Pacific Hansard Editors Association and Commonwealth Hansard Editors Association conferences. Helen's community involvement is in playing the organ at St Mary’s Cathedral and other Darwin parishes. She is part of the Charles Darwin University Adult Wind Ensemble providing piano accompaniment and has provided musical accompaniment for the Quota Club Christmas Carols at Tracy Lodge and Terrace Gardens for fifteen years.
