|Service History:||Phillips had a previous service record of 3 years in the Imperial Army, England. He embarked from Melbourne on board HMAT A14 'Euripides' on 4 April 1916. Transferred to 4th Pioneer Battalion 27 May 1916. Phillips was wounded in in the stomach at Pozieres on 30 July 1916 and returned to Australia on 17 March 1917 on 'Beltana'. He was discharged on 23 June 1917 with a pension of 2 pound 12 shillings and 9 pence per fortnight. Phillips re-enlisted with ANMEF (Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force) in Brisbane on 13 September 1917 but did not serve overseas again.|
