Biographical notes: Thomas's enlistment papers record his birth place as Alice Springs although there is no record of his birth registration in the Northern Territory or South Australia. He married Annie Veronica Gurry in 1910 at Broken Hill. Annie was born in Caltowie in South Australia. A death notice was not found in the Sydney Morning Herald from 28 to 30th of October 1967.

Service History: Thomas’s unit embarked on board HMAT 'Port Macquarie' on 21 December 1914. He was promoted to Corporal on 21 December 1914, wounded at Gallipoli on 1 December 1915 and transferred to No. 3 Auxiliary Hospital at Cairo on 11 December 1915. He was sent home to Australia on 29 January 1916 on board SS 'Suffolk' and discharged with a war pension for medical reasons on 29 August 1916. Thomas re-enlisted in Sydney on 26 April 1917 and re-embarked on 2 August 1917 on board HMAT A28 'Miltiades' disembarking on 2 October 1917 at Glasgow. He was assigned to the Parkhouse Military Hospital on administration duties from 3 October 1917 and then proceeded to France on 23 November 1917 where he was assigned to 2nd Australian Field Artillery Brigade as a driver. He returned to Australia on board 'Konig Frederich' on 20 June 1919.
