Title: I lost my best mate to Cyclone Tracy
Name: Neilson, Peter
My Story: I was sitting in my soon to be in-laws lounge room in Hamilton, Victoria when news of Tracy came on TV. I had just received a card and note from Gary and Margaret Fenton wishing us all the best for Christmas and telling me that this was their last season in Darwin as Gary, a geologist with BHP was to be transferred back to South Australia. In a later bulletin the authorities were asking for help to identify casualties . As I recall they had a name but nothing more. I rang and gave a description of my mate who was later confirmed as a fatality. I have never felt sadder in my life.I wrote to Margaret c/o the disaster management office but did not hear anything.I couldn't obtain any information as to what happened  - the authorities were presumably swamped with requests. If Margaret, or anyone who has any information about her whereabouts, is reading this post I would be very grateful if they would contact me.I was Gary's Best Man and think about them often, especially at this time of the year.Peter Neilson
