Description: Printed at upper left "VOYAGE AU PÔLE SUD ET DANS L'OCÉANIE." Printed at upper right "ATLAS PITTORESQUE, PL. 118". Printed at lower left "Dessiné par L. LeBreton. Lith. par Emile Lassalle." Printed at lower centre "Gide éditeur. PORT ESSINGTON (Côte N. de l'Australie)" Printed at lower right "Imp. Lemercier, Benard et Co." Blind stamp at lower centre "GIDE Editeur Paris". In April 1839 Dumont D'Urville arrived at Victoria Settlement, Port Essington, only five months after its establishment. Louis Le Breton was a marine artist and was the official artist on the voyage of exploration under the command of Dumont D'Urville. Dpicted are a number of features, from left there are buildings on the high ground, the jetty and derrick, a number of ships and watercraft off-shore, a lighter, barrels, stove and cannon in the foreground.
