Abstract
The Kati Thanda - Lake Eyre Basin (Basin) spans a vast drainage area covering nearly one-sixth of Australia's landmass. Spanning large sections of Queensland, South Australia, and the Northern Territory the basin holds ecological values of national and international significance.
Commitment to cross-border collaboration to safeguard the ecological values of the region is embodied in the Lake Eyre Basin Intergovernmental Agreement, established by the Australian, Queensland and South Australian governments in 2000. The Northern Territory Government (NTG) joined the agreement in 2004 and enshrined the commitment through the Lake Eyre Basin Intergovernmental Agreement Act 2009. The Lake Eyre Basin Rivers Assessment program is a cross-border monitoring effort that employs standardised aquatic survey methods across key rivers in the basin (McNeil & Cockayne, 2011; Cockayne et al., 2012).,
