Description

AVRO TEN VH-UMG 'Southern Star', Australian National Airways, flown by Kingsford Smith and Hewitt, carrying the first all Australian air mail AUS-ENG (replacement aircraft for AVRO TEN VH-UNA 'Southern Sun' which crashed at Alor Star, Malaysia. The aircraft struck a telephone pole and wires on landing at Darwin damaging the engine and wing. Photo shows Darwin ground engineer, Gordon Cowper, foreground left in white shirt, about to walk to vehicle.,
