Biographical notes

Corporal Webb will be remembered as the member who responded for the Second Official Contingent at their send off in the Palmerston Town Hall. He will also be remembered as the 'tallest man who has left the Territory for the Front'. At about 6 feet 4 inches Webb's nickname was 'Long Webb'.,

History

Webb enlisted at Fraser's Hill in Queensland and as part of the15th Battalion, 9th Reinforcement he embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A33 'Ayrshire' on 1 September 1915. He then transferred to the 47th Battalion on 3 March 1916. He was wounded in action on 5 August 1916 at Gallipoli. On recovery he went to France and then Belgium and was killed in action on 6 October 1917.,
