Battarbee first came to Central Australia in 1923 and returned a number of times in order to paint landscapes. On this 1936 trip he taught Albert Namatjira how to use watercolours. Battarbee formed the Arunta Arts Council in 1951.,
History
Battarbee's unit embarked from Melbourne on board HMAT A71 'Nestor' on 2 October 1916. After sustaining severe injuries, Battarbee returned to Australia in November 1917.,
