Biographical notes
The embarkation roll lists Jones' address as Victoria Downs, Northern Territory. His service record notes that he was illiterate and could not write his full name. The information in his record varies and appears to be completed by other people. He declared his age as 40 in his service record and his disability statement from 30 January 1917 lists his age as 49 at his last birthday. However, he is on the embarkation roll as aged 38.,
History
Jones' unit left Brisbane on board HMAT A36 'Boonah' on 21 October 1916. He was medically discharged the following year for an injured elbow caused by a fall at Sierra Leone. He left England on 4 May 1917 to return to Australia.,
