Abstract

Exploratory drilling and reconnaissance geological mapping have considerably modified the known extent of the Tindall aquifer in the vicinity of the Edith River. The north eastern margin of the Daly Basin is a fault in that area. This has reduced the area of outcrop of the Tindall Limestone and so also reduced the potential for recharge to the aquifer. Discharge to the river has also been affected because the Tindall Limestone is only in direct connection to the river bed along a small stretch of the Ferguson River. The fault however acts as a conduit for groundwater to discharge to both the Ferguson and Edith Rivers.,
