Printed at lower centre "Gide Editeur. ÉTABLISSEMENT ANGLAIS A PORT-ESSINGTON. (Côte N. de l'Australie.)" Printed at lower right "Lith. de Thierry frères, Paris." Blind stamp at lower centre "GIDE Editeur Paris". In April 1839 Dumont D'Urville arrived at Victoria Settlement, Port Essington, only five months after its establishment. Ernest Goupil was an artist with a taste for adventure. He was an offical artist on the voyage of exploration under the command of Dumont D'Urville. Goupil contracted dysentery and died at Hobart Town on 1 January 1840.,
