Description
"In collaboration with the Anindilyakwa Land Council, the Department of Land Resource Management conducted a Dugong aerial survey during November 2014 over 20,547 km2 of the Northern Territory’s Gulf of Carpentaria region. This represents the fourth aerial survey of dugongs in the Northern Territory’s GoC, the first survey being conducted in 1984. ... The survey was based on a strip transect design that accounts for biases in perception and availability of dugongs caused by turbid water and differences among observers. Additional transects were added to the previous Dugong aerial survey of 2007 to allow for a more detailed assessment of the coastal waters to the east of Groote Eylandt. Sampling intensity was 8% of the survey area." Executive summary,
