The Essington School Darwin 13 General Notices Adventurous Journey Siennas Practice Journey involved travelling to Litchfield National Park with a group of Year 8 students who spent three days exploring the Park. Activities included bushwalking, swimming, cooking, and camp set up. For her Qualifying Journey she travelled to Singapore to compete in the Prime Gymnastics International Invitational. Sienna competed very well against international competition, and placed 8 th from a field of 30. Physical Recreation (Major) Gymnastics/AFL Sienna has trained for gymnastics for a number of years, and logged over 100 hours during the last six months. She trains several times a week, and competes regularly. She also played Youths Girls AFL during the wet season, to increase her aerobic fitness and have some fun. Skill Marching, Gymnastic Routine & Reading Sienna used three different skills to complete this section. She practised her Marching through the Police Junior Rangers. With her gymnastics training, Sienna wanted to get her glide kip, long hand kip, giant, under swing, and flyaway mastered. She spent considerable hours practising these activities. With her Reading, she completed the books that she wanted to within the specified time. Service/Volunteering JPR Senior, Gymnastics Coaching & Dance Sienna volunteered her time helping out at the Juniors in the Gymnastics Club. She improved her coaching skills, and developed her relationship with the Juniors. She also assisted the Junior Police Rangers with their Juniors, and provided leadership to the program. She also helped out at the After School Dance session in the Auditorium. Participant Profile - HuiMin Shi HuiMin joined the Duke of Edinburghs Award on 17th November 2014. She has done a fantastic job to have completed her Bronze Award in under eight months. HuiMin has become the fifth Year 9 student to complete the Bronze Award. Here is some information about what HuiMin did: Adventurous Journey HuiMins Practice Journey involved travelling to Litchfield National Park with a group of Year 8 students who spent three days exploring the Park. Activities included bushwalking, swimming, cooking, and camp set up. For her Qualifying Journey she completed the Lee Point Hike when she had to hike the 16km return trip to Lee Point carrying all her food, clothing and camping equipment. Physical Recreation Walking HuiMins goal with her Walking was to complete at least two hours per week. She comfortably achieved this by walking a variety of different routes. Skill (major) Mandarin & Piano HuiMin completed an amazing 130 hours in this section. She regular attended Mandarin lessons where she has expanded her vocabulary and has become more fluent in conversation. HuiMins other skill was Piano, where she completed numerous hours practising as well as taking lessons. She achieved her goal of being able to play two songs off by heart. Service/Volunteering Dance Sienna volunteered her time helping the After School Dance session in the Auditorium. Her focus was to improve the Junior students with their stretching. She was a great assistant to the Dance teacher, and the Juniors really enjoyed her company.
