The Church of England Missionary Society established an Aboriginal Mission on Groote Eylandt in 1921. This photo shows Bishop Davies and Mrs Davies leaving by (little buckbogia) T Model Ford for the Flying Boat Base. In 1938 the Flying Boats were the chief means of air communication where a sea base was possible Groote Eylandt Mission would have been in the Bishops Diocese based in Queensland. Note the banana palms and simple hut in background, typical buildings in early settlement.,
