He had arrived just before noon from Timor on the last stages of a flight from Zurich's Dubendorf aerodrome in Switzerland in his Puss Moth aircraft '326 CH'. He had departed Zurich on 9 March and following an eventful flight, including a landing accident at Alor Star in northern Malaya on 27 March, arriving in Sydney on 25 May. He later shipped the aircraft to Cape Town, planning to fly on to Switzerland - however he disappeared off the mouth of the Congo River on 6 August 1933.,
