History

This Squadron served in Malaya, Palembang in Sumatra and Java. 160 personnel were captured when the Java fell to the Japanese and 120 evacuated to Australia in their few remaining Hudson's. 1 Squadron was re-formed on 1 December 1943 and conducted operations against Japanese forces from Darwin beginning in March 1944. Re-equipped with Mosquito light bombers in January 1945 at Kingaroy, Queensland the Squadron deployed to Borneo operating from Labuan Island. 1 Squadron returned to Australia December 1945. It was disbanded at Narromine in New South Wales 7 August 1946.,
