Abstract

Acacia peuce, known locally as 'waddywood' or 'casuarina' is one of the most impressive trees of this genera in the arid zone of Australia. In height it is rivalled only by Acacia estrophiolata (ironwood), yet it grows in one of the driest parts of Central Australia, on the edge of the Simpson Desert. The very restricted range of this species has led to comment on its possible relict status, and the significance of this in the evolution of the Australian deserts and their flora.,
