Biographical notes: Connelly was born on 27 August 1892, the son of Theodore George and Henrietta (nee Turner). He left the Northern Territory when he was about 7 years of age. His father ran the Union and Playford Hotels in Darwin and Pine Creek from 1890, but had returned to Victoria by 1899. His brother Laurence also served during the war.
