|Service History:||Enlisted 21 January 1916 and was discharged at his own request on 8 August 1916, because he was desirous of returning to civilian life. Enlisted again in August 1916 but was declared unfit due to defective vision. Enlisted again on 18 September 1916 with medical caveats. Unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A38 'Ulysses' on 25 October 1916. Beard was gassed on 28 May 1917 and disembarked in Melbourne per 'Llanstephan Castle' on 16 April 1918. Beard was discharged medically unfit due to gas poisoning on 9 October 1918.|
