Description: | Lieutenant Timothy McCandless (US Navy), gunnery officer of the USS Peary when it visited Darwin in 1989, checking one of the guns from the original USS Peary to identify it as fore or aft gun. The gun was then in Doctor's Gully but has since been mounted as a memorial to the men of the USS Peary, sunk on 19/2/1942, in BiCentennial Park above the gully (1994). Also pictured Warrant Officer Allen, centre, and Phil Franklin, right. |
