Abstract
The Alice Springs plan applies to an area of approximately 4,528 km2 (plan area). The plan manages the primary groundwater resources, which are: the Mereenie Aquifer System, which provides the town’s water supply; and the Town Basin and Outer Farm aquifers, which provide for small scale irrigation, stock and domestic use. The Mereenie Aquifer System is ancient water within the Amadeus Basin that receives very little modern recharge and is moderately to highly productive. The Town Basin and Outer Farm Aquifers lie within shallow alluvial (river/stream-deposited) sediments with episodic recharge. The plan area includes the township of Alice Springs and the Amoonguna community. Pastoral leases cover about 71% of the land and approximately 6.79% of the plan area is designated as Aboriginal Land.,
