Avro Avian G-EBTU 'Red Rose' departed Croydon, UK, on 14 October 1927 and arrived Darwin 19 March 1928. Captain Bill Lancaster carried a passenger, Jessie Miller (Chubbie) and she was the first woman to travel by air between Eng-Aus. Lancaster disappeared in the Sahara in 1933 but it was not until 1962 that his remains were found.
