Biographical notes
James was a bushman, including droving and well sinking. Educated to 7th standard at a Catholic school. Born at Millchester, Charters Towers, Queensland.,
History
He tried to enlist four times in Queensland, but had a slight injury. Worked his way to Port Darwin and joined up there. Embarked SS 'Ormonde', Sydney, 2 March 1918.
One of four operating a Lewis Gun when he was killed. Information given by mother: "my boy (was) killed outright, a Corporal died while being carried in, the other two were not injured.",
