Biographical notes
Norman Claude Wilson, a carpenter with the Public Works Department in Darwin, was one of the signatories to the petition to the Administrator. He was not prepared to await the Administrator's assistance and sailed from Darwin on SS 'Taiyuan' and enlisted at Broadmeadows in Victoria on 6 November 1914.
Wilson Park (Lot 3826) and Wilson Crescent in Darwin were named in his memory.
His sister Ruby Emily Olive Wilson served as a Staff Nurse at the 1st Australian Army Hospital in England from 1917 to 1919.,
History
Embarked from Melbourne on board HMAT A16 'Star of Victoria' on 25 February 1915. In September 1915 he participated in operations with the regiment in Palestine and the Sinai, and was promoted to Lance-Corporal on 17 January 1918. He contracted malaria and died in the French Hospital at Damascus on 18 October 1918.,
