Mrs Jose Petrick was born in England in 1924 and trained as a secretary and nurse. After coming to the Territory, she became Governess on Macdonald Downs Station, 300 km north-east of Alice Springs. She married in 1952 and later moved to Neutral Junction Station, Barrow Creek. She has worked as a journalist with the "Centralian Advocate" and has undertaken historical research and feature writing for the National Trust. In 1980, Jose was an historical interpreter, transcribing the diaries of Dr Frederick Renner. She has also been the postmistress at the Overland Telegraph Service. In May 1989 her book "The History of Alice Springs Through Street Names" was published. Mrs Petrick was awarded an Order of Australia Medal in January 2000, for the preservation and recording of the history of Alice Springs and for her voluntary work at the Old Timers Homes.,
