Biographical notes
Henry Mayo de la Poer Beresford was born on 29 May 1889 in Port Darwin. He was the son of Arthur George de la Poer Beresford and Ellen Stuart Mayo. He married Nathalie Muir, daughter of Robert Muir, on 26 January 1921. He died on 3 January 1948 at age 58. Arthur and his brother, Richard both spent time in the Northern Territory, Richard contested the 1890 election against VL Solomon. Both worked in the mining sector.,
History
Beresford's unit embarked from Melbourne on board Transport A35 'Berrima' on 22 December 1914. He was badly wounded on 4 May 1915 at Gallipoli while attempting to retrieve a wounded man. He embarked for Australia on 8 October 1915 per 'Suevic'. He arrived in Melbourne on 19 November 1915 and was discharged on 2 December 1915.,
