Lien married Dutch Drewes in Holland they have six children, four daughters and two sons. The family arrived in Darwin in 1959 and of her children started piano lessons. She decided to study musical theory and perception; by 1964 she had completed grades six and seven of the Australian Music Examinations Board. When the children's music teacher said she was leaving she convinced Lien that she could be trained to take her place. Although Lien was nervous to take on a role of teaching, she proved to be an excellent teacher and provided music instruction for many students over the last few decades. Visiting examiners and adjudicators have always highly praised the musical technical proficiency and polished presentation of her students. Lien was a strong supporter of the North Australian Eisteddfod and drama productions. She always welcomed new teachers and given them useful information and assistance in music.,
