Biographical notes

Sybil married Robert W Franklin in 1940. They had four children, one daughter and three sons, they family arriving in the Territory in 1956. Coming from a family of professional musicians, studying music and playing the piano at the age of eight, Sybil began with Darwin Musical Comedy Society as a pianist in 'Me and My Gal' at the Darwin Hall. In June 1957, Sybil became involved with the mayoral debutante balls, first as a pianist, then matron of honour. She trained debutantes for twenty eight years, her last appearance, as matron of honour, was at the bicentennial mayoral debutante ball in 1988. Sybil has played the piano for the Darwin Ballet School since 1980 and was the official pianist for the Royal Academy of Dancing (Australia) for their major ballet examinations held in Darwin. In 1980, she was an awarded a BEM for her services to the community and also became an honorary member of the Quota Club in Darwin.,
