Although Norma was brought up in Sydney, she had been born in Darwin and left when she was three years old moved back in 1955 after she married Alexander (Alec) Fong Lim at St Andrew's Cathedral, Sydney. She was known as a pillar of strength, calm with good sense, graceful and appreciative of finer things of life and a strong supporter of her husband and helped in all the business and sports he played. Norma and Alec had six daughters Dallas, Michele, Tanya, Katrina, Camille and Lorelei. Norma is a talented water colourist and Australia Day icon often launched the celebrations with a well-aimed flick in the thong-throwing competition. Norma opened the new Fong Lim electorate office at the Winnellie shops named in honour of her family.,
