In 1949 they opened their first studio on Daly Street and one of her highlights was being asked to photograph Aboriginal artist Albert Namatjira on his visit to Darwin when he saw and painted the ocean for the first time. Lillian also printed most of the photographs for the author Bill Harney who has written several books on the Territory. She eventually moved her studio to Knuckey Street where it remained until she left Darwin. Lillian was the first woman to run for and be elected to the Darwin City Council served as an alderman from 1958 to 1969.
