Lillian arrived in Darwin, Northern Territory in 1947 with her colleague Margaret Dewhurst. They decided to try their luck as a travelling photographic team. They travelled back and forward from Sydney to Darwin spending several months in Darwin taking photographs then back to Sydney for film processing before returning to Darwin for delivery. In 1949 they opened their first studio on Daly Street and one of her highlights was being asked to photograph Aboriginal artist Albert Namatjira on his visit to Darwin when he saw and painted the ocean for the first time. Lillian also printed most of the photographs for the author Bill Harney who has written several books on the Territory. She eventually moved her studio to Knuckey Street where it remained until she left Darwin. Lillian was the first woman to run for and be elected to the Darwin City Council served as an alderman from 1958 to 1969. She was a foundation member of the Darwin Branch of the Royal Commonwealth Society and the Darwin Bowls Club
Lillian was a member of the Darwin Turf Club Committee for 10 years and owned a horse called ‘Gentleman' she helped establish the Automobile Association of the Northern Territory. She was an active fund raiser for many charities. Lillian left the Territory in 1971 to retire in Sydney after spending time visiting her only daughter Hazel in New Guinea.,
