Abstract

The objective of this document is to provide a basis for the adoption of corporate stage discharge relationships by providing an adopted procedure of rating curve development, description and acceptance. River height data are available at some 391 streamflow gauge stations for periods varying over the years 1952 to 1985. While recorded stream heights provide some useful information on the behaviour of the stream, the conversion of the height data to runoff rates and volumes provides a more useful data base. River height data can be converted into streamflow data by use of a stage discharge relationship. This relationship can be developed theoretically or derived from gauged stream discharges or determined Gauged stream parties during discharges using a combination of both. Gauged stream discharges are are measured by hydrographic either routine visits to the gauging station or specific visits during times of flooding.,
