Biographical notes

Born to Peter Graham Morison and Mary Ann Ede King in Brunswick, Victoria on the 28th October 1882 – the same year his parents married. A letter included with his service record states that he commenced work for a living at 8 years of age. His brother was born in 1889, also in Melbourne. Alf married Mary Ann Doherty in Queensland in 1919 and they had one son (Pat) and three daughters (Lorraine, Bernice and Bessie). Mary Ann died in Cairns on 29 October 1945 aged 55 years. Alf was over eighty when he was living at “Warhaven” Cairns in May 1967. Correspondence contained in his war service record showed that he reapplied for his war medals. RSL in Cairns could provide no further information. He is buried in Cairns cemetery in P4 1151A.,

History

Also served in the Boer war. Left with Captain Lewis in first Contingent April 1915 from Darwin, but joined different unit. Unit embarked from Brisbane, on board HMAT A55 'Kyarra 'on 16 August 1915. Promoted to Lance Corporal 5 April 1916. Returned to Australia 31 October 1917 per 'Berrima' for medical discharge due to hammer toes. Medically discharged in Brisbane 30 December 1917. Returned to Darwin in February 1918 together with Maurice Bruton, V.C.(Nugget) Raymond and G.H.Scott having been to Gallipoli, France and Belgium.,
