Biographical notes
Born 19 November 1891, son of the astronomer Professor Robert William Chapman, C.M.G., M.A., B.C.E., F.R.A.S. and Eva Maud Chapman, of The University, Adelaide, South Australia. Surveyor with the NT Lands & Survey Department 1913 to 1914. He was registered in S.A. in January 1913 and carried out surveys of sections at Daly River during the initial agricultural development of that area. He effected a traverse from Daly River to Brocks Creek in 1914. NT Archives have a file of his correspondence located at NTRS 2660.,
History
Unit embarked from Adelaide on board HMAT A11 'Ascanius' on 20 October 1914. Discharged 21 April 1915 due to gaining a temporary commission with the Imperial Army – Royal Engineers.
