Biographical notes
Margaret Frayne married James Muirhead on 4 February 1950 at St Andrews Church in Walkerville. Margaret was the daughter of Mr and Mrs Harold Frayne of Prospect, South Australia. The couple were to go on to have four children, three sons and one daughter. Margaret accompanied her husband James to the Northern Territory in 1974 when he took up a senior judicial appointment. Muirhead was appointed Administrator from July 1989 until March 1993. In her time in the Territory, Margaret was active in a number of community events, including in the 1970s, volunteer vocational work and rehabilitation program with the female prisoners at Fannie Bay Gaol.,
In 1974 Margaret was elected chairperson of the International Women's Year (IWY) and supported establishment of a women's refuge in McLachlan Street which operated 1975-1980. Awarded an OAM QB 1987 for service to the YWCA of Darwin and to the community. She served on the Board of Directors of the YWCA and executive direction 1975-1980. Awarded an OAM in 2007 for service to youth through the Guiding movement, and to the community through health, social support, aged care and service groups.,
