Bob, Tommy, Hughie and Jack, the guides accompanying the Thornycroft expedition to recover the bodies of Anderson and Hitchcock who died of thirst when their plane, the 'Kookaburra' was forced to land whilst searching for the 'Southern Cross'. They are clearing a strip so a future party could attempt to fly the plane out, but it never happened.,
