Description

HMAS 'Canberra'. The Canberra was built by John Brown and Co., on the Clyde, and has the distinction of being launched by Princess Mary, on May 31 1927. Although classed as a cruiser, the Canberra is the nearest approach to a battle cruiser that the Washington Treaty of 1922, which limited all warships to be built to 10,000 tons and their guns to 8-inch, will permit. In speed, radius of action, and gun power, she exceeds any ship other than capital ships, that has as yet been built for the British Navy.,
