-2- MORNING PROGRAM WITH JULIA CHRISTIANSON 8DDD ABC DARWIN THURSDAY 12 MAY 2005 RPTR BRIAN THANKS FOR YOU CALL. 1300 057 222, CHIEF MINISTER CLARE MARTIN OUR GUEST THIS MORNING AND HAPPY TO TAKE YOUR CALLS BY PHONING 1300 057 222. SPEAKING OF THE BUDGET CLARE THE FEDERAL BUDGET OFFERS TAX CUTS TO ALL TERRITORIANS. INTERESTING TO SEE FEDERAL LABOR OPPOSING THOSE CUTS, DO YOU SUPPORT THEM? MARTIN Julia I can understand why Federal Labor is opposing the budget cuts, because the tax cuts in the budget because if youre on the lowest incomes you get $6 and if you are on the highest incomes you get considerably more, I think the sum is about $130. So there are inequities but this is the Federal Governments Budget, this is the conservative budget and I wouldnt be opposing it. RPTR SO WILL YOU LOBBY YOUR LABOR COLLEAGUES IN CANBERRA, WARREN SNOWDON AND TRISH CROSSIN TO SUPPORT IT? MARTIN Well weve made that position clear. RPTR TO THEM? MARTIN Yes. RPTR WHAT HAVE YOU SAID? MARTIN Said that, exactly what I said to you, exactly what Ive said to you. RPTR THAT ON BEHALF OF TERRITORIANS THEY SHOULD BE SUPPORTING IT? MARTIN Yes, look and just to say I dont agree, I think it is iniquitous, it is not fair that someone on the lowest pay scale gets a $6 tax relief and someone on the highest gets something like $130. Thats not fair but that is the Federal Budget and I wouldnt be opposing tax cuts. RPTR AND WHAT DID THEY SAY? MARTIN Well Julia Ive just relayed the message.
