TUESDAY DECEMBER 11 2018 SPORT 29 V1 - CAVE01Z01MA Pomfret among swimming medals MICHELLE PARKER CHELSEA-ROSE Pomfret has continued to make an impression in her various sporting endeavours. She has represented Australia in karate, played in a netball premiership side this season and won swimming medals. Pomfret returned from the Casuarina Storm Invitational Swim Meet in Darwin with four bronze medals last week. It was a major competition on the Territory swimming calendar with more than 200 competitors. Pomfret got off to a sensational start in the 200m individual medley finishing third in the time of 3:03.20 a huge 11 second personal best. To top it off, Pomfrets butterfly leg was a seven second PB on her individual time. An accomplished breaststroker, Pomfret finished third in all three breaststroke events in a tight competition, swimming close to her best times. Pomfret finished day one in style with a two second PB in the 100m freestyle (1:15.04). With times close between swimmers from second to seventh, she was unlucky not to place. Gaining valuable experience, Pomfret gave the 400m freestyle a go and recorded 5:57.64. It was the first time she has swum this event in competition. This swim turned out to be a good warm up for the 100m backstroke, where Pomfret swam 1:26.86, giving her a massive six second PB. Finishing the meet as she started, another PB was on the horizon when Pomfret finished fifth in the 50m freestyle in 33 70, a 0.51 second PB in her final race. A bonus for Pomfret was swimming nine Northern Territory Championship qualifying times from nine races. Boys. Though small, it was a place swapping bonanza with Daniel Brooks Jnr coming out on top. Cruisers were anything but. In the 8-10 Cruisers, Angus Roberts, Jye Harvey and Oscar Collin were pushing the pedals hard with Roberts taking top spot. Up next the 11-12 Cruisers, Nate Harvey, Reece Cole, Thomas Stone, Jim Bellette tackling the track in style to finish first to fourth. The 40-plus Cruisers was awe inspiring, two riders were shoved into first and second with Joel Harvey pipping Michael Smith. Honours to the last race went to Des Kelly, Brad Bellette and Steph Molloy. There was exhibition riding from Antonio Bellotti, Dean Polglase in the Superclass Men while Kelsie Neve and Steph Molloy showed smooth style in Superclass Women. THE final session of BMX for the year was a night full of racing that defied gravity and limits of endurance. Kicking off were the Mini Wheelers with Xavier Bell, Hannah Johnston, Bou Laidlaw, Callum Lord, Regan Marriott and Levi Sawtell looking like Smarties being shot from a gun. They love their BMX racing. Up next was the Sprocket Rockets, while a smaller field, they ride big with Zoe Sawtell, Jazmine Kerridge, Savannah Kirkman, Kingsley Lankin, Seth Morris, Logan McGargill, Nathan Miller just to name a few of these. There was full classes producing great racing. Nuer Clement-Strawbridge, Owen Broomhall, Caleb Barry were the leading Eight Boys and took the top spots. In the 9 Girls, Lily Parsons, Olivia Dodd and Chloe Du Preez were getting into red dirt action. When the 9 Boys hit the track it was TJ Rikhana-Gray, Jye Harvey and Keygan McCallum leading the way. It was in the last championship for Rikhana-Gray and he showed his speed and agility in every moto to win the title. There was a dead man final in 10 Boys where you placed is how you finished.
