The morning after a good party, Clerical Quarters, Darwin Hospital. Allan Ross; Happy Kirkup; John McNarmin; Leo Morcelis; Howard Truran playing a bush bass instrument.
Bush bass: One of the most traditional of the bush band instruments, this is also one of the easiest to make. A box, a pole and a piece of string. The best box is a tea chest, but you can use a cardboard or styrofoam box in a pinch. To make it, place the box on the ground with the open end facing down, this is the resonating chamber for the instrument. Make one or two holes in the floor of the box (it's the top when you have the open end facing down). Through the first hole, attach the piece of string. This is best done by tying it to a sturdy stick on the inside of the box. Tie the other end to the top of the pole. You can either insert the pole through a second hole, on the opposite side of the box to the first, or just hold it near the box.,
