The board and committees oversee the allocation of resources across the department and the development and implementation of policies, plans and procedures that provide a foundation of good governance for the departments activities. The committees report to the board, with the exception of the Audit Committee which reports directly to the Chief Executive, as outlined in the diagram below. A consistent format for each committees terms of reference, in place since 2014, provides a standard approach to outlining purpose, role, scope, membership, meeting frequency and reporting requirements of each committee. The terms of reference are reviewed annually to document any change in membership and ensure they continue to reflect the departments business requirements and assist the Chief Executive discharge core accountabilities. The review of terms of reference for this reporting period commenced in June and will be finalised in the first quarter of 2017-18. Memberships have generally remained consistent in this reporting period providing stability and consolidation of knowledge to the newer members appointed in the previous year. Further information on each committees key functions, performance in 2016-17 and membership as at 30 June 2017 are outlined in this section.
