LOCAL GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION OF THE NORTHERN TERRITORY 52 Goal 4 - Maintain an effective and efficient service Maintaining and improving LGANT capacity LGANT shall ensure quality management services including human, financial and physical resources to achieve successful outcomes 4.1 Maintain the servicing of the LGANT local road network as identified by the Northern Territory Grants Commission. LGANT is responsible for the maintenance of a 2,116km local road network on behalf of local government in the Northern Territory in six regional council areas with a breakdown by council shown in Figure 13. Over half of the roads vested to LGANT are classified as a flat bladed track with only 3.5km of sealed road to maintain as noted in Figure 14. This is significant in that it further highlights the remoteness of the LGANT roads and subsequent logistical challenges of maintaining them.
