Land Resources of Auvergne Station A supplement to the Land Resources of the Victoria River District 2 Survey Area Auvergne Station is located south-west of Katherine off the Victoria Highway and is approximately 65 km west of Timber Creek. The pastoral property is located between Newry and Bullo Station on the west and Judbarra National Park (previously Gregory) on the east. Its northern boundary is the Victoria River and in the south it abuts the Nagurunguru Aboriginal Land Trust (Amanbidji) and Judbarra National Park (Figure 1.1). The property spans 4 260 km and encompasses a diversity of landscapes. The Pinkerton Range runs north-west while sandstone hills exist in the south and extend into Judbarra National Park. Productive black soil plains range from north to south in the central section of the property while colluvial, sandstone and siltstone plains largely occur on the east and southeast. Major river systems include the Victoria River and the West and East Baines that run parallel from south to north and eventually converge to flow into the Victoria River. The lower reaches of these rivers are under a tidal influence and strong currents generated by large tidal ranges.
