Description

This report reviews a pilot model of family group conferencing for families of Aboriginal children where abuse and neglect has been substantiated. The pilot was trialled in Alice Springs, Northern Territory, and aims to reduce the need for child protection matters to be determined through court processes. It is a collaborative project between the then Northern Territory Families and Children and the Community Justice Centre, with funding from the Transforming Alice Springs initiative and an evaluation framework by the Menzies School of Health Research's Child Protection Research Program. The evaluation focuses on implementation processes and includes client and staff feedback. After a slow beginning, the program now has a fully staffed team, with 28 referrals received between October 2011 and April 2012 and sixteen conferences convened., Made available via the Publications (Legal Deposit) Act 2004 (NT).,
