Description

Made available via the Publications (Legal Deposit) Act 2004 (NT)., This project is aimed at developing an initial assessment of water use of non-irrigated plantation forestry in the Daly River catchment, an emerging land use in the Top End of the NT. This project aims to contribute to this long term water resource planning via an improved understanding of impact on plantation forestry, in any, on surface and/or groundwater resources. Given the current paucity of data and information regarding plantation forestry water use and interception processes, this research is seen as vital to the requirements outlined above and to the ongoing management of water resources in the Northern Territory.,

Notes

This project was led by Charles Darwin University (CDU) and a Steering Committee, with representatives from the NWC, CDU, the NT Government’s Dept of Resources and NRETAS. CSIRO was engaged to make a preliminary assessment of the potential impacts plantation establishment and proposed expansion on the water resources of the region using a modelling approach. EcoLogical Australia was engaged to review previous forestry activities in the NT and develop a policy framework in collaboration with NRETAS staff.,
